An anthem for our day: Disturbed covers The Sound Of Silence

I enjoy a lot of diverse types of music. Until today, Disturbed wasn’t included in my list of “likes”. Sure, they have some catchy tunes and big beats, but I don’t like profanity and swearing. Then I heard something amazing from Disturbed‘s frontman, David Draiman, a cover of a song I’ve enjoyed for many, many years…. Read more »

Wake me up when September ends

Some years ago a song by Green Day was popular – “Wake me up when September ends”. It was a somber song. Summer has come and passed The innocent can never last Wake me up when September ends Like my father’s come to pass Seven years has gone so fast Wake me up when September… Read more »

It might be too late to start prepping

Remember the story of the grasshopper and the ant? No, not the movie, the children’s story that teaches to prepare for Winter unless you end up freezing in the cold, with no food or fuel to survive. Many “preppers” have been advocating doing this for quite some time, with the mainstream dismissing their calls to… Read more »

We’ve got bees!

GREAT NEWS! Though it was too late to get pictures, my boys and I were able to pick up two starter hives, truck them ~80 miles North, and install them last night! We didn’t look for queens, we just checker-boarded some empty foundation frames in, added a deep super, and refilled their feeders. One of… Read more »

“They cooked $37,000 of bees”

Today was the day we were supposed to get and install our two NUCs of honeybees. I just got a call from IFA (our supplier). The bees have been delivered. Unfortunately, the person doing the delivery apparently didn’t know the protocol, and unloaded the bees onto the asphalt – where they all cooked to death… Read more »
